NutraCast Podcast: Carrie Mapes on cannabis and menopause

Although it directly affects half the population, menopause has remained a stubbornly taboo topic. Slowly but surely, more companies are tapping into the market and putting an end to the stigma around women’s health.

One of those companies is Hello Again, an all-natural line of cannabis-infused menopause care products. Co-founder Carrie Mapes joined the NutraCast to discuss the product line and the impact of menopause on women.

“The symptom that really brought me to my knees was memory fog. I have a history of early onset alzheimers in my family. I was finding myself crafting a sentence and not being able to find the word.”

Mapes explained that memory shrinkage is a natural part of getting older, so women often associate it with aging, not realizing hormonal shifts are the culprit.

Mapes and co-founder Patty Pappas founded Hello Again after they couldn’t find plant-based, natural solutions to their menopause symptoms.  With the guidance of medical and cannabis consultants, their line of all-natural CBD and THC vaginal suppositories aim to alleviate common menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, brain fog and sleep difficulty.

In addition to running the company, Mapes and Pappas collectively have five children in college. The co-founders say they don’t shy away from discussing menopause in their households.

“Sometimes I have to smile at how easily we’re all talking about what women in their 50s go through,” laughed Mapes. “I think it will be different for their generation.”
